a lazy saturday

Last night I attended my work Christmas party at the golf and country club.  I debated whether or not I would go for about two hours, and it went a little something like this...

"I should go.  It is a good way to get to know people I work with, and plus there will be free food.  I rarely say no when its free. But...I just got comfortable, and putting on heels and dress pants sounds like a lot of work (not to mention how time-consuming operation save Liz's face and hair might be!)  There might be chocolate.  Perhaps I could go for just a bit... but that means I'd have to move.  How 'bout a little nap first?  Oh this is cozy -- it is really getting warm in here, I'm not sure I'll be able to drag myself off the couch.  Liz, seriously?? You are going to spend your Friday night alone, sleeping on the futon?  Get a life!  Well, I suppose I could just start by brushing my teeth...or maybe I should have some ice cream first!  That's the best idea you've had all day!  Mmmm, this is good stuff.  (thirty minutes later) Now I'm warm, happy and comfortable...sleeping.  Then my phone rings.  Now that I'm awake, I might as well get ready and go out.  But now I have to decide what to wear...  Why is life so difficult?  (finally, after straightening my hair, touching up my makeup, trying on five different combinations of outfits I'm ready to depart)  Mission accomplished; now I just have to figure out how to get there...

As it turns out, the party was worthwhile after all.  I had a moment of panic when I arrived and saw a limo thinking I was crashing a party for VIPs.  Fortunately, I had the right place and soon ran into a couple of people I recognized.  I was taken aback when the doors opened automatically, but I guess the valets have to do something when they aren't parking cars.  The appetizers were tasty, and there were in fact chocolate covered strawberries as well as chocolate truffles.  Only one person ran into me and I didn't fall over, so I considered the evening a success.  The highlight of the night was when two of my coworkers borrowed my giant purse to fill with chocolate covered strawberries 'to go'  They grabbed a napkin, my purse and made their way to the dessert and coffee table.  One of them picked up the entire tray, and proceeded to empty the contents into my bag.  Right as she picked it up though, one of the busboys came out of the kitchen and noticed their strange activity.  Not missing a beat, she loudly commented, "oh, this really is silver," put the tray down and tried a different tactic.  They ended up filling a coffee cup with chocolate treats, and shoving creamer, sugar and a monogrammed napkin in my purse instead.  I'll have to put it in my scrapbook.  I laughed so hard I almost had an accident and tears were streaming down my face.  Maybe these work parties aren't so bad after all.

Today was spent with those I love, and I got to keep my favorite baby company!

*this made me smile:
